Ephraim is a young Ethiopian boy, a farmer’s son whose mother has died. His father leaves him and his pet sheep in the care of distant relatives who live far from their home region. His uncle soon learns that Ephraim is not good at farm work but has a talent for cooking, something he highly disapproves of in a boy. When his uncle tells him they have to sacrifice his sheep for the next religious feast, Ephraim will do anything to save his best friend and return home safely with him. The film’s gorgeous cinematography showcases Ethiopia’s spectacular Bale Mountains, the people and their everyday way of life. Lamb premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and has the honor of being the first Ethiopian film selected to show at Cannes.
In Amharic with English subtitles.
